Step back in time with Knockraha History and Heritage group as part of National History and Heritage week. Our annual Mass Walk through the Fields will take place on Sunday the 24th August meeting at 8.30am. The group will assemble at Buttlerstown, Glanmire Co. Cork opposite the entrance of John Kelleher’s Farm. (Signposts will be erected) The walk will commence at 9am sharp and will take between 40-45 minutes.
The pathway was used in by gone days by the people of Buttlerstown, Brooklodge, Coolnacaw and surrounding areas. The people living in Blossomgrove and Ballyvisteale also used the pathway. It was used as a mass path in the early days and the local children attending the primary school in Knockraha Village also used this pathway.
The pathway passes through very Historical areas of the community including Blossomgrove Farm and adjacent Town lands. Along the pathway are old time stiles, which the group will go over. Local Historian Jim Fitzgerald will be taking part in the walk and will be giving a talk on the various historical landmarks.
All are very welcome to attend the walk on the day old foot wear is advised. Mass begins at 10am in St. Mary’s Church Knockraha. The Priest will arrive to Mass on the morning in an old style pony and trap kindly driven by Doanl O’ Donovan of Glanmire.
Knockraha Macra Na Feirme will serve Tea, Coffee and light refreshments in the community hall after mass. This is part of the Clubs Know your Neighbour campaign. All are very welcome to come along for tea and a chat.
